Vowing to march on Islamabad, the shopkeepers of #Miranshah Bazaar in North #Waziristan continued the protest on the 6th consecutive day here on Monday to press the #government for the acceptance of their demands.
The protesters, who had traveled from North Waziristan, continued the protest outside the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa assembly. They danced to the drumbeat in their traditional style on the main road. They were carrying black banners inscribed with demands seeking compensation for the shops destroyed in the military operation. The shopkeepers said they would intensify the protest if the government did not compensate them. The protesters said the government seemed least bothered to resolve their problems as it was evident from its flippant attitude. “We are protesting for our due rights, but our pleas have fallen on deaf ears,” a protester said, adding the step-motherly attitude of the government prompted them to stage the protest. The protesters recalled that the government had promised to provide them compensation for the destruction of their shops in the Miranshah bazaar as a result of the military operation Zarb-e-Azb in 2014. They said the government had agreed to give them Rs4.5 million in cash for each destroyed shop but it was yet to honor the commitment. Criticizing the authorities for employing delaying tactics, they called upon the government to fulfill promises or else they would stage a sit-in in Islamabad for the acceptance of demands.
